e receive many requests to reprint various materials from The Piano Education Page. The Piano Education Page in all its parts is protected by registered copyrights in the United States and most foreign countries. As such, it cannot be indiscriminately reprinted or reproduced, in whole or in part, without the risk of large fines, very large civil penalties and payment of our attorney costs for the infringement action.

However, we usually grant permission for royalty-free, limited use educational reprinting of the graphics and text from The Piano Education Page in educational, non-commercial settings, such as use for teaching purposes in a single-teacher private studio or on a personal, non-commercial web site. We also normally grant permission to companies for royalty-free reprinting of our reviews of their own products. Similarly, other sites may link The Piano Education Page without our explicit permission, though we are always happy to have other site owners notify us of links to The Piano Education Page.  Copying or reprinting PEP in whole or in part in any other circumstance without advance permission from us is absolutely forbidden.

Materials from The Piano Education Page may NOT be reproduced for commercial or resale purposes or for the purpose of offering them to others on a web site, though some may be used on a web site in accordance with the policies on Reprinting from The Piano Education Page and only with our specific written permission. If permission is granted, you may NOT grant permission for others to use the materials (i.e. the permission is non-transferable). Such requests for use by others should be directed to us. Personal Use Reprinting

In keeping with the educational goals of PEP, we allow any visitor to make a single, personal use hard copy of any part or parts of PEP royalty-free. You need not request our permission to make a hard copy for your own personal, non-commercial use. Personal use copies may not be copied or distributed to others, sold, used on a web site or for any purpose other than personal education and information. For any other use or for larger numbers of copies of any part(s) of the site, you must Submit our Piano Education Page Reprint Request Form, fully and truthfully filled out, to request permission before reprinting from The Piano Education Page.

Reprinting from The Piano Education Page for Educational or Other Non-Commercial Purposes

To use material royalty-free from The Piano Education Page legally for educational purposes or on an individual, non-commercial web site, you must:

  1. Submit our Piano Education Page Reprint Request Form, fully and truthfully filled out (incomplete requests will be returned or rejected),
  2. Receive our formal permission to use the material,
  3. Make no modifications or changes in the reprinted material,
  4. Limit your use for educational purposes to a maximum of fifteen (15) pages of printed text and any graphics present thereupon or a maximum of three (3) different graphics on a personal, non-commercial web site,
  5. Create no more than seventy-five (75) hard copies of material reprinted from The Piano Education Page,
  6. Make no charge beyond reasonable and customary duplication costs for any document which reprints material from The Piano Education Page in whole or in part,
  7. Carry the following notice on every page which reprints material from The Piano Education Page: "[Description of all reprinted material] reprinted from The Piano Education Page, http://pianoeducation.org, © Copyright 2001-2012 John M. Zeigler Portions Copyright 1995-2000 John M. Zeigler and Nancy L. Ostromencki. All rights reserved. Used with permission."
  8. Specifically agree to meet and abide by all the foregoing conditions and limitations.

If your intended use is commercial in any way outside those indicated above or exceeds the limitations set forth above, you must contact us regarding licensing of the material for your use. We reserve the right to refuse permission for royalty-free reprinting of material from The Piano Education Page and to terminate any permission given at any time for any reason.

Reprinting from The Piano Education Page for Educational or Other Non-Commercial Purposes for Registered Owners of the PEP CD

To use material royalty-free from The Piano Education Page legally for educational purposes or on an individual, non-commercial web site, you must:

  1. Submit our Piano Education Page Reprint Request Form, fully and truthfully filled out (incomplete requests will be returned or rejected),
  2. Receive our formal permission to use the material,
  3. Make no modifications or changes in the reprinted material,
  4. Limit your use for educational purposes to a maximum of thirty (30) pages of printed text and any graphics present thereupon or a maximum of six (6) different graphics on a personal, non-commercial web site,
  5. Create no more than one hundred (150) hard copies of material reprinted from The Piano Education Page,
  6. Make no charge beyond reasonable and customary duplication costs for any document which reprints material from The Piano Education Page in whole or in part,
  7. Carry the following notice on every page which reprints material from The Piano Education Page: "[Description of all reprinted material] reprinted from The Piano Education Page, http://pianoeducation.org, © Copyright 2001-2012 John M. Zeigler Portions Copyright 1995-2000 John M. Zeigler and Nancy L. Ostromencki. All rights reserved. Used with permission."

  5. Carry one of the following notices on every page which reprints material from The Piano Education Page: "[Description of reprinted review] reprinted from The Piano Education Page, http://pianoeducation.org, © Copyright 2001-2012 John M. Zeigler Portions Copyright 1995-2000 John M. Zeigler and Nancy L. Ostromencki. All rights reserved. Used with permission." or (for quotes of 15 words or less only) the words "The Piano Education Page" immediately after the quote.
  6. Specifically agree to meet and abide by all the foregoing conditions and limitations.

Reprinting for Commercial or Other For-Profit Purposes

We generally do not allow royalty-free reprinting for commercial or other for-profit purposes. Material from The Piano Education Page may be reprinted under license, but only with the permission of the copyright holder and payment of the agreed-upon license fee. To use material from The Piano Education Page under license, follow the steps below

Any company or party wishing to reprint sections of The Piano Education Page for commercial or for-profit use must contact us regarding licensing of the material for their reprinting of it.

Reprinting for Authors of Articles on The Piano Education Page

Authors of articles or interviews on PEP may create up to fifty (50) hard copy reprints of their article or interview royalty-free for their own personal, non-commercial use, so long as they do not charge others in any way for the reprints, make no changes to the reprinted material, and maintain The Piano Education Page copyright notice on the reprints. Authors need not request our permission to create these reprints. If an author requires more copies than 50 (e.g. to pass out to students in a teaching studio), the author should follow the steps and observe the limitations above for Educational use reprinting. Authors may not re-publish articles appearing on PEP on a web site or in any other publication without our written consent.

Linking to The Piano Education Page

Electronic or print publication authors may provide a link to The Piano Education Page without requesting permission, so long as the link clearly identifies The Piano Education Page as the link destination. For web links, the PEP content must be clearly identifiable as coming from The Piano Education Page. Frame-based links which cover up or disguise the true source of the material are specifically disallowed. Although authors are not required to seek permission for linking, they may want to seek such permission as a means of making us aware of their publication.
