Exam boards - What do you think of them?

Need help with your young piano student or maybe just like to share the joy?

My mum has always been puzzled by examboards, she can never fully grasp their purpose as certain students at lower grade seem to have better skills than students at higher grades at times. She's never saw the real practicality to doing an exam at an easier grade (e.g. grade 1) ... then I know those parents that push their kids to skip grades ... many of them ... as a higher grade means a better pianist ... (according to them)

It would be interesting to see it from a parental point of view.
